Melanie N. Aska is of counsel to the firm with over 30 years of experience in ERISA and employee benefit plans. In her career, she has worked with for-profit and tax-exempt employers of all sizes during all stages in the life cycle of retirement, flexible benefits, and welfare benefit plans – from plan design and implementation, to plan operations, voluntary corrections, and plan amendments, mergers, spin-offs and terminations. She has also helped employers deal with employee benefit plans in mergers and acquisitions.
Before joining Parker, Brown, Macaulay and Sheerin, P.C. , Melanie was the senior benefits compliance officer for Harvard University, a senior editor and seminar speaker with Thomson Reuters/EBIA, a shareholder and the employee benefits practice group leader for the Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based law firm, Godfrey & Kahn, S.C., as well as an employee benefits associate at Ropes & Gray. Since 1995, she has been a co-author of the Pension Distribution Answer Book, published by Wolters Kluwer, and has contributed many articles on retirement plan-related topics to that publisher’s Journal of Pension Benefits.
