Robert C. Macaulay, Jr.
is a member of the firm. Bob is an experienced
lawyer who specializes in health, life
insurance, disability and other welfare
benefit plans. In his 34 -year legal career,
he has helped employers -- large and small,
for-profit and tax-exempt -- implement
employee benefit plans and solve problems
arising under ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA and
other state and federal laws. He has also
represented HMOs, insurance companies,
third party administrators, brokers, consultants
and other providers of services to welfare
benefit plans. Bob has extensive experience
with both the legal and practical aspects
of insured and self-insured plans. He
has advised employers and employees on
the tax consequences of maintaining and
participating in such plans. Combining
legal and insurance expertise, he has
assisted clients with all aspects of health
care plans, including managed care products,cafeteria
plans, HRAs, retiree health programs and
health savings accounts.
Before joining Parker Brown & Macaulay,
Bob was a principal in the Ropes &
Gray Benefits Consulting Group for twelve
years and before that was Associate Counsel
with John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance
Company. He holds the designations of
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered
Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
and Associate in Risk Management (ARM).
Bob has written and spoken frequently
on employee benefits, including presentations
at meetings of the New England Employee
Benefits Council and the Tax Section of
the American Bar Association. He is admitted
to practice in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
